Final iteration of design

Third design proposal

Second design proposal

First design proposal

I think my work on the trees helps to enhance the overall look of the project by adding a more naturalistic appeal to the final design in a layout otherwise mainly focusing on the food aspect. It helps to add to a sense of location. The adornments on the top of the hexagonal boxes that I had done also helped to provide clear indicators of where the food within the boxes are from. My suggestion to have the river boats on the floor on a field of blue and white cloth may have added a sense of motion appropriate with the theme of travel that we aimed to achieve. This was intended to emulate the riverine food markets popular in Thailand.
Overall, I have learnt that adaptability on the fly is absolutely paramount in design work as circumstances will never turn out exactly as one will expect. During the set up, we realized that some of the elements of our design (namely the activity sheets on the wall and the sticker case) were missing and so we had to come up with something on the spot to replace said elements so as to not cause further delay. It was immensely stressful because we were already running short of time, so I had to quickly improvise of something to ensure that said element was fabricated with haste and without wasting more money on it than needed.
Another thing I have learnt is the importance of communication. With so many things going on at once, it is important to be proactive in communicating with teammates especially with regards to progress reports and availability to do work. There were instances where forgetting to update the team in a timely manner resulted in work not being done efficiently and so weekly progress is hampered. This was somewhat frustrating when I am particularly short of time that week as I would need to cover more parts on top of my own set of responsibilities.
I think the whole experience is very humbling. The design phase has taught me to understand the balance between having to defend my design choices and to receive feedback. Not all of my suggestions were practical or aesthetically sound and having to accept them being rejected or ignored during panel meetings was frustrating at times. Playing on the theme of the mythological Great Hunt as shown in the second design proposal was not practical due to its complexity and how far removed it is thematically from the objectives.  Nevertheless, I continued to contribute my ideas and design for the final iteration.
